Nurse Internship Programs
In addition to our Graduate Nurse Residency Program, NCH Healthcare also offers Nurse Internship Programs to experienced RNs in the following areas:
- Operation Room
- Critical Care
- Emergency Department
- Mother/Baby – Perinatal
- Pediatrics
Internships are offered based on department need. New RN’s are encouraged to gain experience in Medical/Surgical and/or Telemetry Nursing prior to applying for an Internship Program.
Internship openings will be posted on our website when available. Each specialty may require additional certifications such as ACLS, PALS, EKG/Telemetry, etc.
Operating Room Nurse Internship
Receive training across all the three phases of perioperative care: pre-operative, intra-operative and transition into the post-operative phase of surgery. As an OR intern, you’ll learn to perform in the role of circulator and scrub nurse while rotating through the several different surgical services. By the end of the program, you’ll be able to demonstrate your knowledge in:
- Surgical asepsis
- Creating and maintaining a sterile environment
- The care of the surgical patient through all phases of the surgical process
Perinatal Nurse Internship Program
Learn to care for antepartum patients with medical or obstetric complications that require hospitalization. Our perinatal internship will also train you to care for women during labor and birth, including surgical intervention. Designed for nurses who want to specialize in obstetric nursing, this internship will teach you how to:
- Competently plan care and administer medications according to hospital/unit standards
- Communicate effectively in a range of situations
- Prioritize patient needs appropriately
Plus, you’ll also be eligible for certificates, including:
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program
- Basic Electronic Fetal Monitoring
- Healthy Mother, Healthy Baby Lactation Program
Pediatric Nurse Internship
Working with a primary preceptor, you’ll complete orientation competencies specific to pediatric areas. Those who finish our pediatric internship are able to successfully provide care to a full patient assignment. Specifically, you’ll be equipped in these areas:
- Direct care and collaboration with other health care team members
- Medication administration
- Documentation
- Clinical decision making
How do I apply?
Successful applicants will have graduated from an accredited nursing school within the past 12 months and have obtained a Florida nursing license. (Or, provide proof of the Florida State Board of Nursing confirmation letter indicating you’ve met the criteria to take the NCLEX exam.) Then, just follow these four steps to complete your application to the NCH nurse internship or residency programs:
- Fill out an employment application.
- Supply a copy of a current college transcript.
- Provide two confidential references using the NCH reference form.
- Complete the interview process at NCH.

What happens once I’m accepted?
Once accepted to a program, you’ll need to sign an agreement to work at NCH for a specified time period after completion of the program. Unit placement depends on your successful completion of the program, and is based on unit needs. Sorry, desired shifts can’t be guaranteed!
